Capri Wine Hotel is built into the old cellars and storehouses of Antica Vinicola Coppola, the island’s oldest winery, dating from the early 1900s. The Coppola family reopened it as a small, adults-only hotel in 2013, keeping the original white barrel-vaulted ceilings and filling the rooms above in deep wine and grape tones, many opening onto a terrace over the Bay of Naples.

In front of the house, a garden still doubles as vineyard, lemon grove and kitchen garden, with a small panoramic pool and a wine bar at its centre — tastings, sunset aperitifs, local bottles — and breakfast drawing on the same produce. Rated three stars rather than luxury, there’s no full spa or gym; the appeal is the family story, the view and the wine. Tell the hotel your ferry time and they’ll collect you from the port, useful on Capri’s steep lanes.
